Yes yes, those of you who have seen my photo and article on the Straits Times on Monday Home Section, this is the event which I was arrowed into writing and been quoted. Not that I was eager to do so, kenna arrow from the CFA Marketing Dept. And the event was rather smooth, mainly cuz today was open to the all the sponsors and bigwigs. I am still a bit miffed that our pay will be donated to charity, but as they say, it is for a good cause. Plus the fact that I had absolutely no say in the pay matter. And for my fans out there, look for the Friday Straits Times, for during the show, I kenna interviewed again. Sigh, the pain of fame....

9:02 pm - ATV
|
Ok ok, after much nagging and cajoling, I will finally update my blog. (smiles sweetly at Abel and Sanchia). I realised that it has been really a much prolonged hiatus since my last entry. As I now enter my last sem in my Honours Year, it does seem fitting that I should close off my NUS chapter with new entries.
And so, it was on the memorable day of the highly anticipated ATV event that I was once again, gald that I am working in UCC. Caught glimpses of many celebrities and stars, though I do not really give much hoots about many of them. But I was looking forward to catching one of my fav star, Denise Keller. She may not be the most gorgeous person alive (and many people would strongly attest to that), but she does have that star quality. On-stage hosting ATV, she is very self-assured and composed. Now before you start to berate me on being hysterically praising Denise, let it be known that I do find her a tad domineering. She always seems to have the intention of up-staging her co-hosts and seems to grab for attention. But, maybe that's her character. Anyway, I got a pic with her, and you know it wasn't that fantastic. But hey, she's still a celebrity, so... - shrugs.

After the event, we went for our usual supper outing, and the focus was on Vincent, who despite the numerous attempts by everyone, was very reluctant to smile graciously for pictures. Sigh, wonder what the hell is going in the complex mind of the man.

4:55 pm - Hols = Unemployment
|
And so finally, the holidays have descended upon us again. For me, it signals the start of slacking and the search for part-time job to earn my keep. For many of my friends, the vacation heralds the start of unemployment and innumerable sending of resumes and job-hunting. While many would comment how lucky I am to still have another year of study, I can fully empathise with those who have finally graduated from university, being labelled as elites ( from our unenlightened PM ), and stepping into the harsh world of WORK.
Some beg to differ, with quips like "But you can earn money!", "No need to depend on parents! Can do what you want!". But how many of us do have a chance to land that dream job of ours? You will be lucky if you can find a job you do not hate I say, much less get a high-paying job. I will love to start work now, test my mettle against this harsh capitalist society of decadence and decrepitude. But as it is, I am allowed to seek solace in the the psuedo-sanctuary called school. A blessing or a bane? I do not know. But for now, my burden is hefty as it is, and I am glad for the respite I am given. To my unemployed friends, all the best.

10:43 pm - CNY Dinner
|
For some inexplicable reason, I find myself going to Kar Leong's place. I guess the only explanation I can offer is goodwill. Went with Cheng Chuan and Soo Yam. Saw Vincent, Sanchia, Pei Pei, Daphne, David and a girl whose name I absolutely cannot remember. Played a couple of rounds of blackjack before Cheng Chuan and I excused ourselves. Hey, what can I say, I was there on goodwill ok.

Got an invite to Jia Miao's place for our own mini reunion dinner, so I rushed down from Kar Leong's place. The gang was also gambling, all in the name of Chinese New Year eh, and Baoxian won the most. I saw like, a huge bundle of coins in front of her, lucky girl. Dinner was not only filling, but delicious cuz I adore steamboat. And yes, it has been ages since I last had steamboat. Jia Miao's mum is extremely hilarious and fun to be with. Very friendly and amiable. Cracked us up with lots of jokes and supposedly "IQ Qn". To top it off, Jiao Miao's father is damn romantic. He came home with a bouquet of roses and presented them to Jia Miao's mum for the forthcoming Valentine's Day. Is that sweet or what?

11:29 pm - Tiger - Part 1
|
Went to CCK to work as cashier for APB, lobang recommended by Kris. My job was quite slack, and plus working with Kris and Megan, definitely smacks of a very slack day. First time in my life surrounded by tons and tons of beer, from Tiger to Guiness to ABC. APB has pumped in lots of cash for this promotion of beer, cuz there were free gifts of varying types for varying amount of beer. As we accosted customers, can really see that some were "kian peng", always haggling for more free gifts and trying to purchase as little beer as possible. And of course, there were some who really purchased huge amounts of beer that left me wondering whether they can really consume all. Qn: During festive seasons i.e. CNY, is it really necessary to buy so much beer?

Anyway, worked till 10pm, and even though business was not that brisk, it was nevertheless boring and boredom can bring about fatigue. Stayed back for a while with Keegan, the security guy guarding the beer before heading home.

|

Went to JP to catch this show. Boy, it's been a while since I last went to JP, cuz someone always says JP is so boring and is sick of it. It's quite a nice show actually, with some good themes. Though the actors themselves do not sound that credible when it comes to themes of passion, monotony of life in capitalist society and standing by one's beliefs in finding direction in life. Still, I give credit to the issues explore in this film, rather than the less-than-lauded performances of the actors, and the cheesy story-line. And yes, you better rest more and fight off the virus in you. Then we can concentrate on mugging yeah.

Had quite an interesting New Year Countdown yesterday. My aunt got this free dinner table at Jurong Country Club, a countdown dinner party that I only realised upon arrving that was supposed to end at 2am! And the crowd comprised mainly of only middle-aged couples and teenagers who all tried to act cool. And the dinner course itself was quite ridiculously plain for a country club. And the programmes they had were lame, with the 1st segment being a short mini Phantom of the Opera by the Vice-President of JCC, who filled me with increduity the moment he opened his mouth. He can't carry a tune to save his life, has no rhythm at all, and enunciates like a primary school kid. My cousins and I were really aghast when he sang 3 numbers from the musical, torturing us, as we were really wincing and laughing at the same time. So, my cousin and I decided on the next best course of action, consume alcohol. The two of us were the only ones at table who kept having refills of beer.
By 10.45pm, I decided I had enough ( and also because I was getting a bit high from the alcohol), so I told my aunt that I had an appointment somewhere else and bolted. Went down to Steve's friend Domina's place, where they had a countdown party. Met a number of strangers, bascially I only know Steve. But they were all friendly and nice people. Played quite a number of games and it was entertaining, esp a game which we had to perform ridiculous forfeits with each other. Thankfullly the girls were sporting with the forfeits with us guys. Will upload the pics when I get them.

Was at Sentosa on Sat, attendence: Sixian, Pris and her brother Slyvester, Soo Yam, Pei Chek, Eugene (who came later), Shufang and Grace. Supposed to meet at 10am, but in the end everyone was late, and we reached Sentosa only at 12pm, after breakfast at Harbourfront. Off.
Met one of the old ushers, I dunno her name and she also dunno me. Still, took pic with us. We tried Siloso Beach 1st, but it was freaking crowded and we wanted someplace near to the toilet. In the end, walked all the way to Pelawan Beach. And then, it rained. *%#*@#

We played a few games of Uno until the rain stopped, and then it was beach volleyball time! Had a couple of games, really exerted ourselves. Saw Bryan Wong there also, was filming some game show. He dun look so hunky in person.

Had dinner at Harbourfront where Kris joined us. Headed to Coffee Club to chill after that. I did not realise that Coffee Club at Harbourfront closes at 10pm, on a Sat nonetheless! We sat our arses there till 11pm anyway. We were customers after all, and customers are always right, most of the time anyway (and only when I am not serving them)

Worked at UCC today, some Christmas show. Went Clementi for dinner with Sixian after that, and watched the Star Awards whilst waiting for Soo Yam and the others. Soo Yam and I "tekan" newbie Larry by putting him through our Team A's "initiation": beer guzzling Larry was pretty game, even though his whole face turned red after 1 mug. Planned with Soo Yam to target other newbies nxt week at the gathering, haha.

Supposed to lunch with Alan, Eugene, Kris and Jingquan at Clementi, but then got a call from Elene and Linda jio-ing me to ktv. Got them to join us for lunch instead, since we have arranged to go play pool. Met Guang Wei and Ai Lan as well, today was really too coincidental, meeting lots of frens.
Headed to West Coast RC after lunch for pool. As usual, it was a good time whipping their arses, haha. Ok ok, must be modest here. Ahem... it was an utterly challenging and stimulating game of pool.
Left bout 5.30pm, everyone got plans, so went to la kopi at Clementi again with Kris. Eugene joined us for a while before going to Marina for dinner with the Coffee Club gang. Had a good time chilling with Kris, been a while eh girl. We should have more of these sessions, and yes, you better go find out more bout the Bintan trip. Then we can go and help you de-stress and clear your mind, and rid the pessimist in you.
Here are the pics I took on Wed ( Ktv and The Movie Blade )

Slacking the whole day sia... quite shiok actually. Watching vcd the whole day. Sometimes can understand why my auntie is so glued to HK drama serials, some are not that soapy, not that bad.
Anyway, went Sakae yesterday cuz Pris got her sushi craving, which btw, happens everyday. Wah, farking bloated, think ate bout 20 plates. Then, went on to watch "Saw". And throughout the show, was trying hard not to burp, freaking "gan kor". "Saw" was pretty cool, rather psychotic though, but awesome.

Went to meet Naga after that, cuz he gg on YEP, to build a community centre there. He is probably sleeping with the dogs and chickens now, haha. On the way there, saw Christmas decorations all over. Is Christmas really that impt?
This lady was singing on behalf of the some Christian grp

11:58 pm - Pic Fest!
|
And here I am again. Only for you guys understand not. So do not complain any more that I have not uploaded the pics. This time, once and for all, I am spending the most amount of time on LJ since... like forever. Anyway, the pics were taken at UCC after the event, Asian Television Awards. Did not get my share of star-gazing, caught a glimpse of Jeanette Aw, she was looking good. TC and Soo Yam were swooning over Steph Song and Denise Keller, gushing over how fabulously gorgeous they are. Well, till next year I guess.

With Soo Yam

With Cheng Chuan

Failed attempt to act cute = silly look
Went Holland V to chill after work, Kris' idea. Got the rest to drink beer with me, till Cheng Chuan swore to ignore me forever, Ka Leong threatened to tekan me at work, and Kris coercing me to go clubbing with her to drink.

5:32 pm - Clubbing after exams
|
Graveyard, Long Island Tea, Vodka Lime, Lamborghini, Tequila shot, Beer = Puke
Aite, that's right pple, these combination of drinks are potent, and I have 1st hand experience. In my defense, I was not pissed drunk though, can able to think and walk properly, though others may think I was incoherent. And to the obvious disappointment of most people, I did not do anything silly. I still possessed enough control of my faculties (or what was left of them anyway) to walk to my house, brush my teeth, shower and tuck myself in. That's right, guys, I did it. And the awesome thing was , I woke up with no hangover whatsoever. This is definitely gonna be one of the rare appearances in clubs I will put in during this hols. Really, clubbing does not agree with me. Or rather I should say, alcohol definitely does not.

Finally, finished some of my datelines. Been a hectic few months. Just realised that I have been staying in school so often that it seems more of a home to me. I think maybe, no make that most likely, I will miss school when I grad. All those hours spent in the canteen just idling, talking, smoking grumbling, philosophising. Camped out in the cold comfort of NUS while we toiled away on our term papers, projects, tests, cursing and swearing whilst knowing deep down inside, we would be doing the same thing even if we were working.

Goddamn it! The cough is starting to really irritate me. Can't seem to eat properly, missing out on home-cooked delicacies, lacking sleep, almost nil concentration on studying and thus zero motivation to study. Hate this type of cough, the racking cough, whereby you are forced to cough every half a minute, and it takes so much out of you.
I will recover from this cough virus, damn it. No minor ailment is gonna make my life miserable. Any recommendations for effective medicine is extremely welcome...

Damn bloody rainy day. Though glad for the respite from the normal scorching heat of Singapore weather, it was nevertheless tiresome getting around the island with rain-drops and water puddles on the ground.
Watched Dodgeball at Bugis with Gavin and his friend Isabelle. Hilarious show, Ben Stiller is indeed a great comedian, he bascially stole the whole the show with his portrayal of the villainous himbo White Goodman. On the other hand, the rest of the cast were not very memorable, even the "good guy" protagonist.

After the show, went to have a drink at this restaurant bar called Ocho, where Isabelle works. Ordered this toasted chips stuff, topped with sausages, rather tasty. But a trifle steep, the prices. Lounged there for a while, chatting with Gavin, before heading home. Somehow, feel tired.

In so in the end, the mobilisation did not materialize. Which means the next period of mob may really be activated, and that is worse cuz it is nearer to the exams, the time where most of the shit is ie mugging, term papers and projects are imminent. Wasted my morning and early afternoon waiting for this bloody mob, the SAF is really destroying males' lives in every stages. No, I should say, the Singapore society and the whole capitalist/totalitarian/oppresive and definitely non-democratic system we are living in is threatening to incarcerate the very fibres of my being, resulting inevitably in the devastation of my zest for life itself. I really dread the coming of the day when I would feel enervated and totally jaded. And all these seemed to be caused by education where one gains knowledge and steps out of the well of ignorance and view the world in its utter gloom and aberration. And it is further compounded by the fact that I am helpless in changing anything about the current state of affairs. It is precisely the fact that I am able to discern Singapore for its de facto abomination and my own incapacitated role that worries me. Some may say that I think too much, that as long as I have a goal in life, and as I live meaningfully pursuing my goals, accompanied by friends and family, life will be better, perhaps even bordering on bliss. Others may argue that since I am unable to change anything about this system, why not make the most of it and maybe one day, I could be in a privileged position, and hence be at the top rungs of society. Maybe, just maybe. But somehow, all these just seem to me as an excuse to escape from the real problem, that our society is really insolvent. Maybe I would feel happier living if I approach life as prescibed by others, but still that does not change the fact that our society is really fuck-up. Thinking too much? Probably, but then again, maybe not...

Finished school at 3pm, hung out with Naga and Jeremy for a while at the canteen; eating, drinking, smoking, as with most of the time when we hung out. Then went home to change b4 going down to town to meet Sixian, Priscilia and Pei Jie for a bout of ktv session, organised by Sixian. After a while, Sixian's friend Serene, potential diva material, came to join us. Gosh, she can sing Landy's songs real well. And when paired with Sixian for a duet, well let's just say they sound really good, although they may just lost out to Yuling and Gerri. Anyway, in the middle of the session, Priscilia's brother popped over to grace the session. Talk about pleasant surprises. And boy, can he sing, sounding a trifle like Jeff Chang.
Deliberated for quite some time after ktv as so where to go. Suggested Clementi and Jurong but was brushed aside by the gals staying in the north. I tried anyway. In the end, went to Dolby Ghaut area's Kopitiam for supper. Chatted a lot about personal stuff till the wee hours of the morning. I was pretty worn out, judging from my previous day's schedule. And Sixian and Priscilia don't have school the next day, so they took things easy. But I must say, it was nice chilling out.
